Battler thinks the idea of anyone falling in love with this cruel woman is hilarious. Beatrice says that's correct, but she was supposed to vanish until the contract was complete. Battler says none of the Ushiromiya family stories mentioned her being bound as a prisoner, just that she made a contract with Kinzo and gave him gold. Then she was summoned by Kinzo and bound as his prisoner for eternity. ![]() ![]() Or rather a cage made of flesh.īeatrice says she was a mighty witch who had lived for one thousand years. (Bolding in the original.) Beatrice claims she was constructed by Kinzo, a human built by a human. Or rather her being human was once the case. (Wasn't she supposed to be a 1000 years old or something I ask?)īattler asks if she'll claim she was not human and a witch all along, but she says that's not so. Battler asks who in the world Beatrice actually is. She could go anywhere she wanted in the mansion and the garden but was not allowed outside. She was also warned "severely" not to leave. She lived only inside the mansion and its garden, both of which were surrounded by a tall fence she couldn't get through. Ah well, everyone is like that in puberty, says Battler.īeatrice explains she had been in that mansion since the time of her birth. At the time she was unable to understand who she was or why she was alive, she says. What is she? How long has she been here and how long will she have to continue her days here? Kinzo just evades and goes to get tea.īattler the Unbeliever shows up and wants to know WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS? (Okay, he doesn't curse because he's a good boy.) Is this the story of Beatrice's past? Beato says something like that. She doesn't want to know her name, she wants to know who she is. Beatrice (I will continue to call her for the moment) simmers in frustration, and says he's not going to tell her. As he further plays it off, I notice he uses the phrase "in one's youth" acknowledging that the "Beatrice" we're seeing is indeed a young woman. What more does she want to know? She doesn't know what she wants to know. She's Beatrice, the master of this mansion. Kinzo tries feebly to evade, asking why she's worried about "something like that". Beatrice says she's known Kinzo for a long time and thinks of him as "my best friend, even as a father". Beatrice says no one will answer the question of who she is, they just avert their eyes and evade. Also there is confirmation that this really is taking place in Kinzo's later years, as the narration says he's "exaggerating his age". A statement "I sat in a garden chair" indicates we're in Beatrice's POV (so this isn't Rosa's story, huh?). Kinzo tries to go excuse himself to get some tea, but Beatrice tells him to stay and talk. ![]() She claims to have been distracted and when Kinzo tries to blame it on the weather she asks, ". Beatrice shows up, and by that I mean the blonde witch we all know but "Bluatrice" from the princess flashback.
